WIP Wednesday

burritos WIP Wednesday
I haven't done a WIP Wednesday in forever! Eeps! Every week I've got too many WIPs to even write about them! haha.

KITCHEN: Since our commitment not to pay to eat out at restaurants anymore (meaning PLEASE TAKE US OUT FOR DINNER) the fam and I have been working hard on making more meals. Stewart's taken on a new Burgers Tuesday challenge and my menu planning is happening, though scattered at best. Tonight I made bean burritos with roasted tomatoes (recipe on that soon!) and cabbage and cheddar. YUM. We had it with corn on the cob. Good quick dinner when all I want to do is eat raspberries and blueberries by the handful.

COMMUNITY: My day-to-day employment is as a Project Coordinator for a community development research project. A four year project at that. Which means I spend my entire day all day at work doing community development. It's a super fun and rewarding job and it's great to see how many community connections there are. Right now I have a gazillion things on the go at my job (in the community) and most recently have kind of leveraged my connections with the city planner and engineer to help them map out commuter bike routes (because there isn't a map) and perhaps apply for some funding to build some commuter routes and get signage! Wahoo! Super validating to say, "hey, I need this service" and them to say, "we don't have that" and all I honestly said was, "I can help you do a map, organize community forums, and write an infrastructure proposal". And they have said, "let's meet!" The thing I'm learning most in my new job is to just ask and things will happen. But that that ask has to include an offer to carry the work. Rather than just say, "Hey you, do this".

CRAFT: I am knitting some socks and have a few sweaters on the go, but am longing to do more hands on and quick crafts like embroidery, sewing, or paper crafts. Thinking about making these coasters or even scrounging up the materials to make helmet covers for derby. After those stamped curtains I kind of feel spent for the week.

  1. Humble suggestion for the bike commuting maps: do you think you could do one that shows how the good bike routes link up with public transit and/or park-and-ride lots? I have a folding bike and I typically do a multi-modal commute. Routes with bike maps would be awesome - but bike/transit maps would be even better...

  2. That's a great idea. I'll bring it to our meeting. Port Alberni has a deplorable transit system and not sure if all the busses even have bike racks. No park and rides, either. It's definitely a town where people in cars don't often see bikes on the road and won't know what to do if we were in the road all the time. Blah.
