did you know that rosehips are ripening soon? pick a bunch! we will have some tutorials soon for ideas re: what to do with rosehips and why they are sooooo good for you!
Kitchen: Right now I'm on again, off again, canning. Oftentimes I'm categorized in the community as the one who *does* roller derby or the one who knits or "the one with all the tattoos"... but I like to identify more as a put-it-up-'r. Canning and food preservation is my thing. I have a friend who usually this time in August we get on the phone late at night (after the kids go to bed) and we would talk about what seals stuck, what jams needed pectin or not, and what kind of syrup we're sticking our fruits in. This year I have not made many things, which I'm a little aghast about. The main reason of this is just not having as much money as last year, but I do know that I need to get some more things in jars so that we can survive the winter (we do not buy fruit that isn't from BC/AB/WA EXCEPT for lemons and limes--meaning we don't eat bananas, other tropical fruits, etc that we purchased from the store). So far I've put up a massive pot of raspberry jam (with berries from our garden and honey from the hoof), some curry zucchini pickles, and a gluten free sweet zucchini pickle. I *really* want to can plums and apples because they go over the best with the kid and I'm pretty sure I can get a line on them FOR FREE (hurrah!). We also have two 1 litre jars of blueberries left from last year. I will covet them.
Community: I'm not currently doing this project I'm about to link but think it is super cool and WISH I had the time and ability to help organize something like that here in Prince George. It would be INCREDIBLE and go a long way! It's called THE DOULA PROJECT and they offer doula support "across the spectrum of pregnancy"!!!! This includes miscarriages, abortions, still births, live births, and adoptions!! So amazing.
The obvious community piece for me/us/HSH is the grocery store. We're overwhelmed by how excited everyone is and are nailing down the next three major pieces: 1) business plan, 2) location, and 3) start up funding. We're so lucky to have travelled this summer (and in our lives in general) and are excited to literally knock your winter boots off, Prince George.
Craft: I'm always making something. I'm working on a few mix cds for friends (YES PPL STILL MAKE THESE AND MAYBE JUST ME), am knitting the kid a sweater for the heck of it, have started a sweater for me, and am going to sew myself a few of these dresses. Next up on my "to-do" for crafting is to make myself some underwear.
what are you working on this week?
